Adam “The Coyote” Collins waltzed into the Ultimate Schmoedown Singles Tournament with a confident 17-11 TKO win over Andres “The Ghost” Gallego.
Collins had control of the match from the get-go as he knocked down all eight questions including the bonus to jump out to a 9-6 lead at the end of Round One. With the lead and the advice of his manager, Shannon Barney, The Coyote elected to spin first, spinning away from Movie Quotes and landing on the difficult category of Movie Release Dates. Collins went 3/4 for 5 PTS in the round but unfortunately relinquished a 1-point steal to The Ghost. Gallego followed this up by spinning the category of Innergeekdom and going an abysmal 1/4 for 2 PTS, giving up 3 1-point steals to his opponent, and setting the score at 17-9 heading into the final round. The Ghost had a lot of ground to make up in Round 3 and he attempted to avoid the technical knockout by hitting his 2-point question, but he ultimately could not pull the 3-pointer resulting in the 17-11 TKO win for The Coyote.
“Movie Release Dates are something I’m comfortable with, but, to be frank, I don’t enjoy answering Movie Release Date questions as much as other trivia questions,” Collins said in regards to his second-round spin. “So, I would just prefer a separate category. But, yeah, I gave up one steal, you know, because I was on the fence of 2013 vs. 2014 for Nightcrawler, but I think I can live with that. Yeah, you know it is what it is. Maybe next time I’ll get something I really like.”
Collins picked up 3 PTS for Korruption following the win, securing second place and dropping the Finstock Exchange to third. He advances to play either John “The Outlaw” Rocha or “Dangerous” Dan Murrell in the first round of the tournament on September 10.
